A poll completed in March 2012 by Flemming and Associates reveals that Social Wokers rank over 80% in the State of RI.  This is good news for RIASSE, SEIU--Local 580.  Many of our members are social workers  working at DCYF, DHS, and BHDDH.

Legislation prevents the highest-income earners from paying lower tax rates than middle-class families

 

As the Senate prepares to vote on U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s Buffett Rule legislation, Rhode Islanders from across the state will rally alongside the Senator this Friday to show their support for the legislation. Whitehouse’s bill, the Paying a Fair Share Act, would ensure that multi-million-dollar earners pay at least a 30 percent effective federal tax rate.

The foreclosure crisis just keeps getting worse. More than 12 percent of residential mortgage loans are in foreclosure or at least one payment past due. Millions of homes have been needlessly foreclosed on because banks have not modified homeowners’ mortgages to affordable levels. On top of this misery, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD’s) funding for counseling to prevent foreclosures has been cut to zero.

Meanwhile Congressional Republicans enacted a budget slashing funding for OSHA the agency responsible for enforcing worker safety and health standards, as well as for the agency that issues tsunami warnings.
