Job Description for the Position of:

State Council Director RI SEIU State Council
 
Position Summary
The Director is responsible for helping to plan, implement and achieve the goals of the State Council:
 “ to coordinate SEIU political programs, which include legislative programs, political action , community action and organizing campaigns.”   
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  1.  Assist Locals Presidents and leaders with Development and implementation  and implementation of Political plan/s, including electoral plans, legislative campaigns and contract campaigns
  2.  Assist Locals  in updating information and database
  3.  Develop and plan political, legislative and electoral plans and coordinate  these activities of locals and SEIU National and Regional Political staff
  4. Maintain monthly records of payment
  5. Generate monthly reports
  6. Assist with providing Federal issues information to locals and members  
  7. Assist with recruitment and training of Members for member political activity both volunteer and paid
  8. Help plan and run phone banks, mailings and canvasses, assisted Locals in developing COPE and retiree activities.
  9. Assist Officers in filing  Reports and paper work in compliance with state and federal law and maintain records
  10. Assist in  developing candidate surveys
  11. Represent Locals as needed in Legislative process,  write and present testimony at hearings, help plan and execute Lobby Days .Assist with lobbying as requested by Council leadership
  12. Meet with RI Federal Delegation and their Staff on issues before Congress


Qualifications Preferred
      Bachelors Degree and 5 years experience in the Labor Movement or related field
      Excellent organizational and writing skills
Good computer skills including knowledge Proficient in GetActive, Constant Contact (or other e-advocacy software) member electronic communication, Excel,and Quickbooks and able to use VAN and other voter file programs.
Working knowledge of Rhode Island State and local political scene
Willingness to travel

 

Compensation

        Salary based on Experience, Health Insurance and retirement plan offered
