We Must Work Together!

Come to the next C.O.P.E. meeting and learn how all of us can work together to have our voices heard!!!!!

COPE meets the last Tuesday of every month @4:30 at the Union Office on Elmwood Ave.

COPE is our vehicle for political activism and education.

COPE members are tracking Bills, which will affect our members.

         DO YOU NEED YOUR PENSION AFTER YOU RETIRE?

                                                         DO YOU NEED YOUR BENEFITS?

On behalf of our Local, NAGE, 1199, 401 and SEIU International Leadership I want to give all who participated in the March 26th LOBBY DAY (passing out flyers, passing the word, attending on the day of the event), a huge THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We continue to work on the following:

1.     Unite with the other SEIU state employees to rally and push back on the Governor's budget.

2.     Work with Working Rhode Island and the AFL-CIO in joint negotiations.

3.     Unite with other unions in a coalition to protect our pension.

4.     Build our political program and fundraising.

  • POLITICAL CHANGE BEGINS WITH THE MEMBERS OF SEIU LOCAL 580 MEMBERS;

  • SOUND PUBLIC POLICIES ALLOW LOCAL 580 MEMBERS MEET HUMAN NEEDS, PROMOTE SOCIAL JUSTICE, AND BE FAIRLY COMPENSATED FOR THE WORK WE DO;

  • LOCAL 580 MEMBERS ARE FIGHTING HARD TO MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD. THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO DO THIS IS THROUGH OUR MEMBERS.

BY BECOMING ACTIVE WITH COPE

OUR VOICES WILL BE STRONGER!

Committee On Political Education

The primary function of the Local 580 Committee On Political Education
(C.O.P.E.) is to elect men and women who aggressively work for
pro-worker legislation.

The public leaders we elect to office make decisions that affect our
lives. These lawmakers shape the laws that govern us, the taxes we pay,
and the services our government provides. By taking a lead role in
federal, state, municipal and local elections, collectively, the labor
movement can elect more pro-union candidates and subsequently create a
more pro-worker political climate in Rhode Island.

For more information, to donate, or to join the COPE committee call the Union Office at 785-0206.

NOW THAT YOU'VE HAD A RAISE, CONSIDER RAISING YOUR COPE DEDUCTION!

$ 6.00 per member per pay period is considered the low standard
$12.00 per member per pay period is the recommended standard

ASK EVERY MEMBER (AEM) - AEM is a systematic member-to-member contact program in which members reach out to other members to have international coversations about political and/or organizing priorities about our union.AEM is an opportunity to ask members to sign up for COPE, to participate in local political actions, and to get involved in other ways that strengthen the local union.
http://www.walkadayinmyshoes2008.com/ Tell the presidential candidates how the health care crisis affects you and see where the candidates stand. We can't afford to keep passing up higher pay so we can keep the health care we need.
SEIU Campaign for a New American Dream : Put workers front and center on the platforms of presidential candidates. TASKS: 1) raise resources by developing COPE capacity. 2) Build member to member communication through Ask Every Member (AEM) campaign. 3) Recruit members for Walk a Day in My Shoes activities. 4) Educate members on the Presidential candidates and SEIU's program.
